String Band — Teaching Kids to Sing AND Play

A string band is an old-time music ensemble made up of chordophones, a forerunner of bluegrass and country music bands. Building such a group in elementary schools around ukuleles allows students to learn how to accompany themselves while singing. In the process they develop an independent sense of pitch, harmony and rhythm — especially swing. String bands are also an unsurpassed way to introduce children to classic songs from the folk, country, rock and jazz catalog. This is a hands-on session, so be ready to sing AND play.

Please bring a ukulele with you to the session if possible. Other instruments will be provided.
