Director of Choral Music
Sara Spafford Freese is Director of Choral Music at Creative Performing Media Arts Magnet Middle School where over three hundred students are enrolled in choral music. The sequential program that Mrs. Freese built at CPMA offers four levels of choir and a 6th Grade Exploratory Music Class. CPMA Choirs have performed all over the Southern California region and consistently receive superior ratings at festivals.

Mrs. Freese attended public schools in San Diego Unified School District, graduating from the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from San Diego State University and her Masters of Music with a specialization in Conducting from Colorado State University.

In 2013, Mrs. Freese directed the San Diego County CMEA Partnership Middle School Honor Choir. She was named Choral Music Educator of the Year by the California Music Educator’s Association Southern Border Section in 2011, and received the MacKenzie-Haney award for excellence in choral education in 2015.

Mrs. Freese currently serves on the board of the CMEA Southern Border Section, is an active member of the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA), a California Music Project (CMP) master teacher, a member of the SDUSD VAPA Advisory Council, and a contributor to the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) Arts Initiative.
